The Croisements Festival, celebrating French culture across China for 14 years, will bring exhibitions, concerts, plays, films, literature and family events to 35 cities across China from April 26 to July 6 this year.

The third Chinese edition of the Marcel Duchamp Prize will open this year’s festival, followed by “Birth of a Genius” at the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing, the largest Picasso retrospective ever organized in China.

The 2019 Croisements Festival features a broad range of French-Chinese artistic encounters.

Theater play “The Three-Body Problem II: The Dark Forest,” written by Chinese Hugo Award-winner Liu Cixin and directed by French director Philippe Decouflé, will be staged in Beijing and Shanghai.

Chinese composer and conductor Tan Dun and the National Orchestra of Lyon will tour China with his latest work, “Buddha Passion.” Pieces by Debussy and Ravel are also included in his program.

Music lovers will also have the pleasure of discovering Mozart’s Don Giovanni, revisited by director Laurent Laffargue and performed by Chinese and French singers.

Art of the Great Ocean, Pacific Art Collections from Musée du Quai Branly-Jacques Chirac will be on display at Shanghai Museum for three months.

Music producer, songwriter, film director, talk-show host and Chairman of Alibaba Entertainment Strategic Committee Gao Xiaosong was named Ambassador of the 14th Croisements Festival at the launch event on Wednesday in Shanghai.

“It is an honor for me to sponsor the Croisements Festival. Even if my level of the French language is limited to eight sentences, and despite learning that goes back to ... 24 years! I have always been interested in French culture and the history of France, where I now go every year,” said Gao.
