Award-winning sci-fi novel adapted into online series
“Hero’s Dream,” an online series based on Qian Lifang’s sci-fi novel, has started airing on Youku.
The original novel received a special award in 2004 at the Galaxy Awards, China’s highest honor for sci-fi fiction.
Set in ancient China, the series combines Oriental culture with sci-fi elements. It centers on a group of heroes in the the Qin Dynasty (221-207 BC). Because of unexpected visit of people who travel beyond time and space, their fates and the history are about to change.
In terms of sci-fi film and TV productions, China still lags behind Western countries, which have produced such popular sci-fi series as “Under the Dome” and “Westworld.”
Industry insiders believe the market for this genre in China is huge, and more home-grown sci-fi productions are expected to emerge. Some of them will feature diverse elements such as sci-fi, martial arts and ancient Chinese legends.
