This year’s first orange heat alert was issued this week. It seems that the summer is coming faster than we first thought. As usual, the guide team has prepared an eclectic event list that includes a thought-provoking exhibition, classic drama performances and some kid’s activities to enjoy this hot July. Studio Ghibli celebrating 30th anniversary with first Chinese tour
★ Highlights: Classic cartoon character Totoro is coming to Shanghai
Official art exhibition of Studio Ghibli will begin its first Chinese tour at Shanghai World financial center next month, celebrating the 30th anniversary of its representative cartoon work “My Neighbor Totoro.”
This time, nearly 300 cartoon prints from Studio Ghibli, a Japanese animation studio established by renowned cartoon director Miyazaki Hayao, will be showcased in this exhibit for the first time. the highlight of the display is the “cat bus,” a classic scene showing in the animation. Chinese cartoon fans will have opportunities to take this cute cat bus during the exhibition and relive the cartoon again.

Art exhibition hits relationship ‘reset’ button
★ Highlights: A big art party with a series of cross-cultural artworks
A contemporary art exhibition entitled “Wavelength: reset” will be launched at Shanghai power Long
museum next month and will run until October 8.
A group of renowned artists from all over the world will join the art party, bringing over 60 cross-cultural artworks for Chinese enthusiasts for the first time. The exhibit includes visual artworks, fashion collections, sculptures and new media interactive installations with the theme of “reset.”
It aims to discuss the relationship between production and consumption, leading viewers to think about the process of the reproductivity and the cycle of birth and destruction of material universe.

‘Cats’ gets its claws into Shanghai
★ Highlight: Musical “Cats” is back in town after more than 10 years
The smash-hit musical “cats” will hit the stage at Shanghai Grand theater from July 25 to August 5.
Based on the poetry of famous British poet and playwright T.S. Eliot, the original musical was composed by English composer Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Since its premiere in the West end in 1981, cats has not only repeatedly refreshed the show several times over, but also won numerous worldwide awards.
After more than a 10-year absence, the original musical “cats” is back in china again and it is embarking on an 11-city tour. An uncompromisingly gorgeous lineup is assembled in addition to the diverse dance elements and a stunning original stage presentation. A show not to be missed.

Harry Potter concert
★ Highlight: The Orchestra del Cinema performs Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone
The orchestra Italian del cinema will perform Harry potter and the philosopher’s Stone at Maxus Holiday plaza, as part of the Harry potter film concert Series in July.
Harry potter and the philosopher’s Stone is a fantasy novel written by British author J. K. Rowling. It is the first novel in the Harry potter series and rowling’s debut novel, first published in 1997.
The concert will feature a live symphony orchestra performing every note from Harry potter and the philosopher’s Stone. Audiences will be able to relive the magic of the film in high-definition on a 40-foot screen while hearing the orchestra perform John Williams’ unforgettable score.

These boots were made for walking

Broadway musical “Kinky Boots” is to be staged at Shanghai culture Square next month.
Based on the 2005 British film Kinky Boots, written by Geoff Deane and Tim Firth, the musical tells the story of Charlie Price.
Having inherited a shoe factory from his father, Charlie forms an unlikely partnership with cabaret performer and drag queen Lola to produce a line of high-heeled boots and save the business.

Life about to get sticky as alien monsters land at Joy City
★ Highlight: Sticky Monsters Lab at Joy City Mall
A new alien form of life has arrived on earth. They are called Sticky monsters and can be found at the new Sticky monster Lab at Joy city mall in Jing’an district through August 19.
When one envisions alien life-forms, the typical depictions are of grotesque, uncanny beings that are not like ourselves, but this is where Sticky monsters differ!
The exhibit is divided into eight main parts with each section having a particular theme and mood.
The “convenience store” is the first of these sections and you can see the humanity of these creatures. they can be seen shopping and conversing or at the office in their business attire typing away at their keyboards and refilling their coffee mugs.
These areas are the essence of the space and allow viewers to connect with the creatures on a level deeper than fictitious. Certainly a unique experience, this exhibit will question ideas about other life forms and make them more relatable.
