Wanda Film opened a new IMAX laser theater at Shanghai Hoyts Cinema on August 31.

The theater, equipped with a brand new generation of IMAX laser projection and 12-channel sound, will provide movie buffs with a more immersive experience.

According to Brian Bonnick, chief technology officer with IMAX Corporation, they started to redesign the projection system five years ago.

The new “IMAX with laser” system will solve some problems in brightness, contrast and sharpness, and create more impelling visual and audio effects for theatergoers.

Zeng Guang, vice president of Wanda Film, said that their cooperation with IMAX Corporation began in 2007. Wanda Film now owns a total of 278 IMAX screens, and the number is still on the rise.

“Over the past few years, we have witnessed the rapid development of Chinese cinema and the huge potential of the Chinese market,” Zeng said.
