Highly expected homegrown 3D animated film “The Adventure of Afanti” held a premiere at Shanghai Film Art Center on Wednesday. The film will be nationally released on October 1.

The film pays tribute to the 14-episode classic animated series “The Story of Afanti” (1979).

The original series was hailed by generations of audience for its amusing story line and artistry. 

The new film is about the wise man Afanti who embarks on an adventurous journey to find water for a village.

According to director Liu Wei, Afanti in the film is a brave, humorous and smart character who will teach children how to solve problems and face challenges. 

The film is set to the backdrop of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The local food culture, folk arts and architecture are also incorporated into the scenes. 

At the premiere the film’s producer, Shanghai Animation Film Studio, also donated books and DVDs to children in Xinjiang.
