Restored 'My Neighbor Totoro' to hit Chinese screens
Mainland actress Qin Lan gives a voice to the film’s Chinese language version.
A digitally restored version of Hayao Miyazaki’s classic animated film “My Neighbor Totoro” will hit cinemas across China on December 14.
The film was given a grand China premiere in Shanghai on December 10, attracting a number of movie fans and cultural celebrities from home and abroad.
The original film, produced in 1988 by Studio Ghibli, has touched generations of movie buffs for its heartwarming and imaginative story about two little girls’ friendship with wood spirits in rural Japan.
The restored version has improved the image and sound effects of the 30-year-old classic.
Mainland actress Qin Lan, who adds her voice to the film’s Chinese language version, said she had been deeply impressed by director Miyazaki’s modesty and affability, just like the charm of his animated movies.
