Spring Festival choir shows to be televised

Shanghai Media Group’s news channel has announced new programs for the Spring Festival.

Starting February 5 at 10pm, the first day of Chinese New Year, “The Most Beautiful Choir” will be aired on the popular platform.

Twenty-one choirs, composed of people from all walks of life, will sing the “Charm of Shanghai.”

The youngest member of the choirs is 3 years old, the oldest 93, while many foreign expats have also joined the sing-a-long.

The choirs will perform both original and classical songs at several landmark resorts around the city, including the Bund and Lujiazui. Veteran conductor Zhang Liang, composer Tian Yimiao and local singer Ping An have been invited to be commentators and intend to share with the audience unknown stories behind the songs.

Audiences can also vote for “The Most Beautiful Choir” in the online videos’ section.

Starting February 10 at 8pm, a weekly heartwarming program “Super Dreamer” will also air on the news channel.

And as part of the festivities, famous home designers, such as Chinese architect Ping Wang and Italian designer Denial Saracino, will renovate small apartments for people who are working hard in the city. With creative improvements, the new homes will boast distinctive cultural elements of the city.
