Award-winning animated Japanese movie set for China release

The award-winning Japanese animated fantasy film “Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms” will hit theaters across China next Friday, February 22.

The film scooped the Best Animation Award at last year’s Shanghai International Film Festival and has been nominated at this year’s 91st Academy Awards, which will be held on Sunday, February 24.

Directed by Mari Okada, the film is follows an extraordinary emotional connection between a young Iorph girl, Maquia, and a human orphan Ariel. It is a touching tale of growth, love and solitude.

In addition to its in-depth portrayal of delicate emotions, the movie also boasts high artistry and stunning visual scenes.
The film’s promoters recently held several pre-screenings in major Chinese cities, including Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, where it received critical acclaim.
