Annual Greenland classical concerts scheduled for May
The Greenland Classical Music Concert series will be held at the city's Chenshan Botanical Garden in Songjiang District from May 18 to 19.
The concerts, now in their eighth year, also celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, and three Chinese young tenors, Shi Yijie, Han Peng and Xue Haoyin, will present a special concert on May 18.
Celebrated German conductor Christoph Eschenbach will perform with Chinese violinist Chen Rui and the SWR Symphony Orchestra to present a concert on May 19.
The ensemble will play Antonin Dvorak's "Slavonic Dances," and excerpts from Bedoich Smetana's "The Bartered Bride" and Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake."
Prior to each performance there will be two light-hearted musical performances by up-and-coming talented artists from 2:30pm to 4pm.
The audience will be treated to episodes from both classical and original musicals. Interactive programs will also be organized to promote the charm of classical music.
Officials from Classical FM 94.7, organizer of the concerts, said that since its launch in 2012, the concert has now become a cultural brand of the city. Tickets for last year's concerts were sold out quickly.
