China's search for original talent

A variety show open to amateurs and professional singer-songwriters aims to make up for a lack of diverse and high-quality songs and uncover new stars.

“CZR” (literally “I am singer-songwriter”), a new variety show aimed at fostering original music in China, will air on iQIYI on April 12.

The show will see performances by both amateur and professional singers.

Each will introduce seven of their songs on stage to be voted for by the audience and a panel of judges.

Officials from iQIYI said China’s music industry still lacks diverse and high-quality original songs. They hope to arouse public awareness of original music and discover gifted performers.
