Turkish director to lead jury at Golden Goblet Awards
Turkish director Nuri Bilge Ceylan will be jury president for the main competition of this year's Golden Goblet Awards, the organizing committee of the 22nd Shanghai International Film Festival announced.
Ceylan is one of Turkey's most accomplished film directors. He has also won multiple awards at the Cannes Film Festival, including best film, best director and jury prizes.
Born in Istanbul in 1959, Ceylan studied film at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University after graduating with a degree in electrical engineering from Bosphorus University.
In 1995, he began to show his talent with the short film "Cocoon." His next two feature films, "The Small Town" and "Clouds of May," were shortlisted at the Berlin International Film Festival.
Since then he has made many critically acclaimed works such as "Three Monkeys" and "Once Upon A Time In Anatolia."
In 2014, he won the Golden Palm, the top honor at the Cannes Film Festival, with "Winter Sleep."
Previous cinema stars invited to serve as jury president for the Golden Goblet Awards included Luc Besson, Wong Kar-wai, Danny Boyle and Emir Kusturica.
The 22nd Shanghai International Film Festival will be held from June 15 to 24.
