A special exhibition, Relic Sensual Theater, jointly presented by LoopWave and the Shanghai Dramatic Arts Center is open to the public until October 27.

Combining digital visual arts and interactive sound installations, it is the opening exhibition of the gallery, which is on the seventh floor of the newly renovated Shanghai Dramatic Arts Center.

“As an open theater, Shanghai Dramatic Arts Center is not only a place where performances are staged at night but also a warm and spiritual space where audiences can have various arts experiences all day long,” said Zhang Huiqing, general manager of the theater.

Established by visual artist Zhou Fan, sound artist Bao Erjin, new media artist Liu Wei and curator Yang Ge, the art label “LoopWave” advocates the concept of “open workshop.”

Conducting a plan called “Artist in Residency,” several artists in different fields worked together in the Zhujiajiao ancient town for almost three months.

“I adopted the principle of symmetry to this design," Zhou said. "Symmetry is one of the most perfect structures. Some 150 series of patterns are inspired by the life cycle of different animals. Extracting, arranging, disassembling and reconstructing, this is the way of creating. Every series features a distinctive color system and represents different materials and species.”

Creative products are available at the theater.

Following the theme of the opening season – “Hole to Another Universe,” Shanghai Dramatic Arts Center has created a fashion brand of the same name.

According to staff, the cool handbags have sold out quickly. People who are interested in them can make a reservation at the theater.

There are also a series of creative products, such as Muse rings, 3D models of the 18-floor building, gloves, postcards and fridge magnets.

Another gallery featuring the development of the Shanghai Dramatic Arts Center is on the sixth floor.

The old props, costumes, models of stage design and photos, all bring visitors back to the theater’s classic plays.

“We want to create a vibrant arts venue, which enriches people’s spiritual life,” said Zhang.

“From now on, there is one more internet-famous place on Anfu Road. We welcome people to ‘punch card’ here.”
