“Charlie's Angels,” an action-packed film about a trio of female agents, had special screenings in 23 Chinese cities on Tuesday.

The film stars Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska as the fighting angels who display their intelligence, teamwork and bravery on the screen through a series of scenes involving explosions, car chases and parachute jumps.

Directed by Elizabeth Banks, the film is based on a 1970s TV series telling the story of how the fashionable heroines team up to fight evil forces.

A 2000 production of the same name that starred Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Chinese-American Lucy Liu was a box-office sensation, reaping US$264 million back then.

The latest film will hit cinemas across China on Friday. It is also available in an IMAX version.
