Singer-songwriter and music producer Joanna Wang, also known as Wang Ruolin, is coming to Shanghai with her new album and namesake tour “Love Is Calling Me.”

The talented musician raised in Los Angeles is one of the few female recording artists who can perform in both Chinese and English.

She released her debut album “Start from Here” in 2008 as a double-disc set, one in English and another in Chinese.

Wang was exposed to many classic pop music acts, including but not limited to The Beatles, Queen and Oingo Boingo.

Among her major influences are Danny Elfman, Paul McCartney and video game soundtracks such as those from Zelda and the Mario series.

Mixing a cool jazz vibe with soft pop, Wang is considered a Chinese answer to nine-time Grammy winner Norah Jones and Brazilian-Japanese bossa nova legend Lisa Ono.

The versatile musician is widely known by Chinese audiences through her original songs like “Let’s Start from Here,” “Lost in Paradise,” “For No Reason” and “The Best Mistake I’ve Ever Made,” as well as her version of classics like “Can’t Take My Eyes of You,” “I Love You,” “Vincent” and “My Dear.”

At her Shanghai show, Wang will feature her soothing music, which is rooted in things that bring her “either joy, sorrow or a heartfelt story that comes to” her mind.
