Three years after their last visit, a group of blue men return to Shanghai with a new show at the 1862 Theater. The performance runs through January 5.

Founded by Chris Wink, Phil Stanton and Matt Goldman in 1991, the Blue Man Group is internationally renowned as a cure to boredom and a promoter of joy and happiness.

Their distinctive performance combines comedy, drama, rock concert, dance, high technology and installation art.

One highlight of the show is the group's self-created percussion instruments, which are made from the PVC pipes of different lengths. Interacting with audiences, the blue men might paint graffiti on their faces, or even abstract paintings on the bodies of special guests.

For audience members sitting in the front rows, they are in the “wet experience area.” The theater prepares raincoats for them if they don’t want to get wet.

The widely acclaimed performance has won many awards, such as the New York Drama Committee Award and the Grammy nomination.

Touring in over 25 countries and more than 300 cities, the imaginative show has attracted around 35 million viewers around the world.

This latest show is staged at a shipyard-turned theater. Known as Shanghai’s new cultural landmark, the theater features many industrial traces.
