With a joyful reassembly of clothing, bags, accessories, furniture and toys, the windows of Maison Hermes on Huaihai Road in Shanghai were transformed into a “Play House,” to celebrate the festive year-end. Based on the luxury house’s yearly theme “Let’s play,” Chinese artist Lu Pingyuan presented two windows into wild, imaginative souls — a pinky fantasy wardrobe with tiara and other animation figures for girls, and a wacky working studio for boys.

Lu’s artistic creation also extends to a solo exhibition entitled “La malle aux tresors” on the fourth floor of the building. Famed for a skillful utilization of various media such as video, sculpture, painting and toy, Lu tells a tale with a narrative blending reality and fiction. Featuring a dozen enlarged toy boxes tossed around the exhibition hall, the show is said to be a tribute to master artists and animation figures who influence and inspire the artist, such as Picasso and Giacometti.
