Fashion to be center stage

With strong musical beats and futuristic lighting, Shanghai Fashion Week will kick off tomorrow.
Fitness brand Reebok will be center stage at Taiping Park, Xintiandi, while Chinese-American fashion designer Vivienne Tam’s latest collection will be presented at the Chamber of Commerce.
The fashion gala will feature runway shows from Chinese designers and numerous events from major international brands, along with trade fairs, forums, fashion competitions, presentations from up-and-coming talent and a multitude of showrooms.
This season features more than 110 fashion collections and over 1,100 designers/brands in trade fairs, such as Mode Shanghai Fashion Tradeshow, Ontimeshow, Showroom Shanghai, DFO Showroom, ALTER Showroom, TUBE Showroom and NOT Showroom.
Hundreds of brands from home and abroad will be able to meet buyers from China’s booming multi-brand boutiques and online stores.
The big names that will make their appearances in the fashion week tents include Jenny Packham which is Kate Middleton’s favorite, Faith Connexion from France, Nicole Miller and Asava, among many others.
The shows and presentations by well-acclaimed Chinese fashion brands and designers include Angel Chen, Xu Zhi, SHUSHU/TONG, Yirantian, 8ON8, Wan Hung, XIMONLEE, deepmoss, Awaylee, Evening, ALLCOMES FROM NOTHING, HAIZHEN WANG, WHM, C+plus SERIES, REINEREN, Yingpei Studio, Sirloin, SAMUEL Guì YANG, The Lawn, Leaf Xia, JICHENG, minki, Andrea Jiapei Li and Awaylee.
Shanghai has built itself into a world’s fashion hub over the years, and also set up an exciting design community and business infrastructure.
Statistics from the Shanghai Commission of Commerce reveal that more than 800 major fashion brands chose the city to open their first store last year, and over 3,000 brands made worldwide debuts of their new collections in Shanghai.
“Shanghai Fashion Week is stepping into a new era of high quality, efficiency and power,” said Liu Min, deputy director of the Shanghai Commission of Commerce.
“It will be a more open platform to link fashion resources and explore symbiotic channels to support talented designers and start-up brands through trade show business and events.”
