Nearly 200 volunteers gathered at Jinyun Village this afternoon. In collaboration with Smile Farm, Starbucks sponsored projects for volunteers to clean river courses, sort trash and make fertilizer from coffee grounds.

“Last year, 500 kilograms of compost were made from coffee grounds. We donated it to the local community, helping to harvest more than 1,000 kilograms of crops,” said Liu Wei, a representative from Starbucks.

In 2011, Starbucks declared April Global Month of Service, an opportunity for Starbucks partners to serve their local community. Starbucks also organizes food and clothing donations and volunteering at orphanages.
