Stone Brewing Tap Room — Shanghai’s philosophy on craft beer is clear: a commitment to a world-class artisanal experience.
The 300-square-meter bar and restaurant opened two weeks ago — the first tap room by an independent American craft brewery on the Chinese mainland.
The interior gives off a relaxed beer house vibe incorporating reclaimed wood, concrete, steel and vintage lighting. The 90-seat interior features vintage carpets and sofas that warm the industrial elements for a visual experience as nuanced as the beers.
Outside in the 100-square-meter garden, guests can indulge in to-go beers while chilling on the grassy front lawn.
Stone Brewing was among the pioneering breweries to inspire the resurgence of craft beer in the United States 22 years ago and its entrance to the local food and beverage scene shows its ambition in response to the growing craft beer scene in China, with the intention of increasing the appreciation of America’s craft brewers. The Shanghai spot is the third of Stone’s locations across three continents to open in the past three months.

The tap room delivers an unparalleled selection of craft beers: 30 taps including regular and rotating guest beers from the world’s most sought-after breweries, more than 300 cellar beers from across the globe, as well as a wide selection of beers only available at Stone Brewing locations.

From clean and crisp time-honored classic Stone IPA to the aromatic Stone Tangerine Express IPA and Stone Cali-Belgique IPA with sour cherry aged in Red Wine Barrels, each pick has an amazing capacity to pair with different food.
The recommended food includes “Angry” Wings (68 yuan), Duck Confit Spring Rolls (68 yuan) and Gallic Dunk aka French Dip (88 yuan). The typical American sandwich is the must-try, featuring roasted New York strip loin shaved thin and piled on a fresh Italian roll with creamy horseradish sauce, crispy tobacco onions and au jus for dipping — pure satisfaction.
