Beef spring roll with foie gras at Meiji Kyoto

Meiji Kyoto

Meiji Kyoto on Julu Road is now offering a seasonal matsutake mushroom meal in Kansai style. Chef Yamamoto Yukiharu from Kyoto, with more than 30 years' experience in the kitchen, always believes that simple is the best.

As the highlight of the menu, the seasonal matsutake are from the mountains of southwest China’s Yunnan Province. Whether the matsutake are in soup, tempura or noodles, they are full of aroma and delightful flavor.

Don't miss the chance to try the cold noodles topped with matsutake. Generally, the noodles should be consumed within five minutes. When you eat them, the noises you make will not be seen as a rude behaviour, but rather as a tribute to its delicious taste.

Seasonal matsutake soup at Meiji Kyoto

Another stand-out of the menu is the steamed egg bowl topped with seafood. This feast of seafood features squid, salmon, abalone, shrimp, eels and raw sea urchins. Chopped okra is added for extra flavor.

The staple food is beef spring roll with foie gras. The foie gras has a special taste because it is marinated with salt and pepper first, and then wrapped in spring rolls. They are deep fried slowly in low temperature oil. At last, the chef will add some home-made beef sauce.

Located in a four-story Kyoto-style villa, the restaurant features two sushi bars, 19 private rooms and a 30-square-meter garden. At the sushi bar, the chef makes tailor-made sushi and presents the freshest pieces in front of you.
