Wines of Sicilia DOC
Wines of Sicilia DOC and ITA-ICE (Italian Trade Agency) organized a master class recently in Shanghai, giving industry professionals a rare chance to taste 18 varieties of wines from the region with the recognition of DOC (the Controlled Denomination of Origin). Top Italian wine educator Francesco Ye led the class by introducing the wine region’s characteristics and main autochthonous varieties from Grillo, Nero D’Avola, Nerelllo Mascalese to Frappato.
The mission of Sicilia DOC is to connect passionate winemakers throughout the region and strengthen the identity of Sicilian wines, while improving their quality, image and market position.
Sicily is the top region in Italy in terms of farming area dedicated to organic production. It is also the first region with organic vineyards. With an emphasis on sustainability and the island’s natural climate conditions, winemakers are shifting more and more toward the production of fresh, honest and modern wines that match international cuisines.

DMBA bar industry awards
The DMBA bar industry awards for China and Asia returned on December 9 to celebrate the rapidly evolving bar scenes in the region. In its fourth edition, DMBA has grown to include national, regional and international awards across 22 categories, from service and cocktails to innovation and sustainability. These awards recognize the year’s voter-decided leaders in all aspects of the drinks industry.
The big winners of the night were the Hope & Sesames and Taste Buds groups, scoring three awards each. Hope & Sesames took home the Sustainability Award, while their Guangzhou bar won the Bar Team and Service Award. Taste Buds won the High Volume prize, and its recently opened Arch bagged the Design Award.
Sober Company Shanghai scored the Bar of the Year Award.
Meatopia: enjoy steaks and burgers in style
Meatopia is Shanghai’s latest destination to provide high-quality meat dishes and wines in an easygoing and upbeat atmosphere.
The dry-aged beef at Meatopia is from Greater Omaha Packing in the US and Rangers Valley in Australia.
Burgers are another highlight of Meatopia, the creations feature a distinct contrast of flavor and texture to present a unique experience, and customers can choose from the slow-roasted pork belly and kimchee (the pork belly takes more than 10 hours to cook), dry-aged beef burger with homemade pickles, smoked beef brisket with onions, homemade mustard mayonnaise or fried crab cake burger with homemade mustard mayonnaise and capers.
For dessert, the rum bread pudding is a must-try for the winter season. The butter toast has been soaked in rum with heavy cream, milk and vanilla for 10 hours before it’s baked and topped with melting Mascarpone cheese.

The Miracle in 1515 pop-up bar will brighten spirit this holiday season with festive cocktails, snacks and over-the-top Christmas decorations. Created by Social Supply and managed by the 1515 West Bar inside Jing An Shangri-La, West Shanghai, the over-the-top ambiance is hard to beat and everyday from 5pm to 1am until December 22, one can indulge in special cocktails along with delicious snacks such as Wagyu beef tartar and oyster, and pitted preserved prunes wrapped in crispy bacon. Festive cocktails especially made for this festive period, including Homemade Eggnog and Santa’s Stash, will surely get you in the spirit.
