New environmentally friendly footpath to open along Yuanxiang Lake

Construction has started on a new footpath along Yuanxiang Lake in Jiading District, according to the district’s publicity department.

Under the blueprint, the footpath will be two kilometers long and 1.5 to 3 meters wide. Environmentally friendly materials will be used to pave the path, as well as in the construction of lights, benches and litter bins.

It is scheduled to be finished and open to the public by the end of October, the department said.

Yuanxiang Lake, the largest artificial lake in west Shanghai, covers an area of 62.2 hectares, nearly equal in size to 87 standard soccer fields. It includes 33.25 hectares of water, or about 54 percent of the total size, and 28.25 hectares of greenery.

The first phase of construction was completed in December 2013.
