Fan Yubin, vice principal of the school, said such drills are often held for the children during a semester and that each of its eight school buses has a teacher in charge.

Nine schools in Yangpu District have about 1,100 pupils taking 32 buses, police said.

In Pudong, where there are 607 registered school buses serving 80 middle schools, primary schools and kindergartens, police have given a detailed inspection to each one of them before the new semester starts.
