A man accused of making tens of thousands of yuan by selling fake brands of pesticides has been arrested for illegal operation.

Fengxian District prosecutors said the suspect, Feng Li, started to sell the weed killer glyphosate on his Taobao store last year. To reduce costs, he bought bogus pesticides and mixed contents with authentic pesticide brands.

He was accused of selling counterfeit pesticides worth more than 11,000 yuan (US$1,680) on his Taobao store and 44,000 yuan of goods at his brick-and-mortar store, whose address wasn’t disclosed.

Police seized 9,990 bags of fake pesticides, valued at 40,000 yuan, at his warehouse, prosecutors said.
