Huawei and the International Center of Photography (ICP) launched the first NEXT-IMAGE Awards on Saturday in Shanghai.

As smartphone penetration grows and mobile camera technology becomes more advanced, an increasing number of people are using their phones to create compelling visual content that is far more expansive and diverse than ever before.

Officials said that the NEXT-IMAGE Plan aims to redefine visual expression and culture with the right smartphone technology and a unique style.

The annual NEXT-IMAGE Awards, part of the NEXT-IMAGE Plan, encourages smartphone users from around the world to submit and showcase their best work. Ordinary people have the potential to become the next generation of photographers using new tools for their own visual expression.

Together with ICP — one of the world's leading institutions dedicated to photography and visual culture — Huawei will also hold a series of cross-media activities, including exhibitions, collections and educational opportunities to enrich visual expression.

The winners will be announced on December 19. For more details, check official award website.
