Japan's famous anime and game characters festival, Wonder Festival, will be held in Shanghai next year, the first time the event has ever been held outside Japan.

Launched in 1984 by famous Japanese toy maker Kaiyodo, Wonder Festival is one of the largest model exhibitions of anime and game characters in the world. The event will be held from April 6 to 7 at Shanghai New International Exhibition Center, officials said yesterday.

Figure sculptures of popular mecha and sci-fi characters and creatures from well-known productions “Ultraman” and “Evangelion” will be displayed and available for purchase. Some limited-edition masterpieces will also be on offer to collectors.

So far, major Japanese toy makers such as Good Smile Company and Max Factory have announced that they will participate in the event with their latest sculptures.

Chinese model designers can also apply to attend and showcase their works through www.wonfes-china.com.
