Nearly 1,400 events promoting science will be held around Shanghai from Saturday this week to Friday next week to celebrate National Popular Science Day.

Nearly 1,400 events promoting science, including concerts, a workshop on earthquake and a scientific knowledge competition will be held around Shanghai from Saturday this week to Friday next week to celebrate National Popular Science Day.

More than 90 percent of the events will be held in local communities, schools or companies to offer science-related topics closer to local residents.

The 2017 International Science and Technology Film Festival is the highlight of the event this year, with six 3D movies such as Mysteries of China, Space Panda, Little Dolphin and Meet the Dinos to be presented in Shanghai Science and Technology Cinema during the third and fourth weekends of September.

Most of these films will be introduced in Shanghai for the first time.
