The Fuxing Art Festival, a highlight of the Shanghai Tourism Festival, kicked off on Hengshan Road over the weekend, inviting tourists to savor enchanting autumn views and the romantic streets of Hengfu (Hengshan Road and Fuxing Road) area in Xuhui District.

At the opening ceremony, cyclists from home and abroad rode bikes amid garden villas and trees, with the route passing seven spots of interest, like the former residences of writer Ba Jin, who lived in a garden villa on Wukang Road, and cartoonist Zhang Leping, whose two-story home of 42 years was on Wuyuan Road.

Other spots included Shanghai Museum of Arts and Crafts, Shanghai Camera History Museum and Soong Ching Ling Memorial Residence.

The cycling and jogging event is held every Saturday afternoon, starting from Hengshan Road, through until October 6.

Hengfu, one of the most romantic blocks in Shanghai, features beautiful old villas, tree-lined sidewalks, chic cafes and restaurants, and a tranquil and laid-back lifestyle.

Every Saturday afternoon during the festival, European street artists will play jazz music under the trees, and visitors will be invited into a swing dance party.

Three jazz concerts will be held at the Wukang Road Tourist Center on the evenings of September 23, 30 and October 1. More than 40 art, culture and music lectures and activities will be held in the area during the festival.

On September 22, an old Shanghai music show will be held at Xujiahui Park.

A night tour includes exploration of the Little Red House, once the headquarters of Pathe Records, inside the park.

The festival runs from September 16 until October 6.
