Jing'an's spanking new stadium, the biggest sports facility in the district, will launch a trial operation on Monday.

The Jing’an Sports Center, at 116 Wenshui Road, comes with bells and whistles — and a rooftop football pitch.

Occupying nearly 62,000 square meters, equivalent to about eight and a half football pitches, the stadium has a 5,600-seat comprehensive venue, a swimming pool, two basketball courts, two volleyball courts, four tennis courts, 16 table tennis courts and 20 badminton courts.

It also has a rooftop standard football field, 13 meters off the ground, the first of its kind in Shanghai. As the rooftop pitch only holds about 750 seats, it will be mainly used as a training base for football teams, said Yu Biao, director of Jing’an Sports Bureau.

Close to the Middle Ring Road and a seven-minute walk from Wenshui Road Station on Metro Line 1, the new facility offers easy access to a variety of sports that residents say they most want access to.

The trial operation will last till the end of this year. Over the period, venues, except the swimming pool, will be open 10am to 10pm from Monday to Friday, 9am to 10pm over the weekend.

Users will be granted discounts from 20 to 50 percent. They are advised to dial 021-3636-3536 three days in advance to make reservations and check prices.
