Getting a haircut is a time-consuming chore for many. Some barbershops in Minhang promise to end the ordeal.

Four newly opened shops in Minhang promise to finish a haircut in just 10 minutes. It costs only 15 yuan (US$2.25).

Normally, a haircut costs about 20-30 yuan, or more if involving hair style changes.

“Haircutters in my shop don’t try to sell anything or chitchat with customers, said Wu Qin, manager of one of the shops. “They ask what cut the customer wants and focus on that alone.”

The 20-square-meter barbershops are located inside supermarkets and have only three seats.

When entering, customers take an automatic ticket that tells them where they are in the queue. Those far down on the list can shop while waiting for their number to come up.

The shops are attracting loyal consumers, many of whom are tired of hairdressers trying to sell them products to make a few more yuan.

Even without the sales gimmicks, profit at a new shops has reached 5,000 yuan.

“We get an average 70 to 80 customers a day -- and more during the weekend,” said Wu. “We have two hairdressers on weekdays and three on weekends.”

The shops are mainly targeted at men who simply want to cut their hair shorter without changing hairstyle. Parents also like the shops because their antsy children don’t have to sit still for more than 10 minutes.

Four such barbershops are in operation in Minhang, in Zhuanqiao Town, Wujing Town and Dongchuan community.

"I came to find this convenience store-like barbershop a month ago when I came to shop in the shopping mall," said a customer surnamed Chen who lived in Zhuanqiao.

Now he came for a second cut.

"The shop is simple yet convenient, quiet and reasonably-priced, which is satisfactory for senior people like me," he added.
