A tourist from Shanghai died after falling from a cliff when climbing Mount Kenya in central Kenya around 3pm local time on September 24, Xinhua news agency reported today.

The climber, whose identity was not disclosed, fell off a cliff when descending the mountain after reaching the highest peak Batian at 5,199 meters, Xinhua quoted Mount Kenya Wildlife Conservatory.

The climber was later found dead by a local guide.

The Chinese Embassy in Kenya has contacted the family of the deceased and helped them prepare documents necessary for their visit to the country.

Mount Kenya is the highest mountain in Kenya and second-highest in Africa, after Kilimanjaro.
