Famous actress named as the city's ambassador for World Cities Day

A series of events will be held in Shanghai in October to celebrate the annual World Cities Day. Yang Ying, also known as Angela Baby, was named as Shanghai’s ambassador this year.

October 31 marks the annual World Cities Day.

On Friday, Chinese famous actress Yang Ying, who is better known by her English name Angela Baby, was named as the city’s ambassador for the event this year.

To call for residents to enjoy the beauty of the city, promote urban innovation and sustainable development, a series of events will kick off in October. The events include an orienteering competition, graffiti creation, cycling for charity, forums on sustainable urbanization, and international cultural exhibitions.  

This year’s World Cities Day is themed 'Innovative Governance, Open Cities.'

The United Nations designated October 31 as World Cities Day in 2013, which was initiated in a declaration on October 31, 2010, the closing day of Shanghai World Expo.
