The new Shanghai Jiahui International Hospital

A new international hospital will open in downtown Xuhui District later this month, further meeting the higher demand for medical services.

Shanghai Jiahui International Hospital is a comprehensive hospital with 500 beds, 246 of which will be available during its first phase.

The local health authority encourages private investment in the health field to boost health reform and meet patients’ demands. Shanghai is perfecting a health service system whereby the main support is from public hospitals, which are supplemented by private and joint venture hospitals and clinics.

Private hospitals also enhance their quality and capability through cooperation with local public hospitals and leading hospitals from around the world.

Jiahui is one example of such cooperation. It has collaborated with Massachusetts General Hospital in the United States — the first collaboration of its kind in China — and cooperated with local public hospitals like Renji and Xinhua in the area of staff training.

Shanghai is building two international medical zones in Pudong and Hongqiao through the introduction of leading hospitals from home and abroad, as well as advanced hospital management.
