A new children's hospital opens in Shanghai today, in an effort to boost public health reform and offer parents more choice.

Shanghai Pubin Children’s Hospital in Pudong New Area is a private hospital with 150 beds, opened under the cooperation of state-owned Shanghai Children’s Medical Center and social investment.

It features outpatient services, an emergency service and hospitalized service for all pediatric departments, but will mainly focus on developmental pediatrics, respiration and asthma, and endocrinology.

Other services offered include vaccination, chronic disease management, and APP consultation.

Though many hospitals have pediatrics departments, the best pediatric resources are located at four leading children’s hospitals around the city, barely meeting the demands of local parents who have to travel to these hospitals and then wait for hours.

Shanghai Pubin Children’s Hospital aims to reduce some of that burden.

The government is encouraging leading hospitals to cooperate with social investment to establish more facilities with high capability to meet patients’ demands while streamlining health reform.
