Top 10 speeding drivers in October in Shanghai named and shamed
Shanghai police published a list of top 10 speeding drivers in Shanghai so far this month on Friday.
Heading a list is a car from a metal product manufacturer in Shanghai which sped at 187 kilometers per hour on the G1501 Expressway at noontime on October 17. The speed limit of this expressway is 100 kilometers per hour.
The second place belonged to a driver surnamed Hong who dashed his car at the speed of 164 kilometers per hour on the G15 Expressway at about 2:30pm on October 18, while the speed limit is also 100 kph.
The next day, a car from an investment company in Shanghai was found to be speeding at 156 kilometers per hour on the G2 Expressway while the limit is 120 kph, ranking the third on the list.
Among the 10 cars, four were registered under companies and the rest were under individuals.
Six of the 10 cars were with Shanghai plates and the rest were with plates of Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Anhui provinces.
All of the offenses took place on expressways where speed limits are either 100 or 120 kilometers per hour.
Drivers who speed up to 20 percent above the limit face a 50-yuan (US$6) fine and three points deducted from his license.
Those who speed 20-30 percent above the limit face 100 yuan of fine and six points deducted, while those who speed 30-50 percent above the limit face 200 yuan of fine and the same amounts of points deducted.
Top punishments await drivers who speed over 50 percent above the speed limit with 1,000 yuan of fine and 12 points deducted from his license. The top two drivers on the list will be subject to this punishment.
