Directors from more than 20 arts institutions from China and abroad gathered in Shanghai on Monday to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, the first of its kind in China.

They took part in a forum talking about issues such as the role of music institutions in modern society, as well as diversity of music cultures and cooperation.

At the forum, the Shanghai Conservatory of Music proposed a series of indicators based on the assessment of music and dance studies using international disciplines, which highlights the importance of practice, creativity and social impact.

Lin Zaiyong, president of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, said the indicators were developed based on features of Chinese art education and the experiences of international institutions, and were expected to help better develop the Shanghai music university.
