Shanghai’s quality watchdog has told Ikea China to recall its Malm line drawers in China. The Swedish furniture giant had earlier announced a recall of 17.3 million drawers in the United States and Canada in the wake of several tragedies.

Shanghai Quality and Technical Supervision Bureau said yesterday it had also told Ikea China to fulfill its obligation on quality issues and safety hazards and conduct a flawed product investigation and analysis.

A 2-year-old boy in California was crushed to death after an unsecured Malm dresser fell on him in May. He was the 8th child under 3 years old whose death was blamed on unsecured Ikea dressers.
