Shanghai Disneyland expansion to open next summer
Shanghai Disney Resort revealed details of its new Toy Story Land on Thursday, which features three ride attractions and will open in the summer.
"The first post-opening expansion of the resort is a sign of the early success of Shanghai Disney Resort and demonstrates the confidence the joint venture shareholders have in the growing consumer demand for themed entertainment in China," the resort said.
Construction has started on the 7th themed land at Shanghai Disneyland.
According to the resort, visitors will feel as if they have been shrunk down to the size of their favorite Toy Story characters enabling them to join in on the laughter and fun.
With regard to the new rides, Rex's Racer features a 30-meter-tall U-shaped track, said Jim Shull, executive creative director with Walt Disney Imagineering. The ride will zip forward and backward at increasing heights and speed.
Another ride is the Slinky Dog Spin, where visitors will be able to race around a "wavy roundabout."
The third ride, Woody's Round-Up, comprises 11 ponies, each one pulling a cart, in a ranch.
Other attractions include the Meeting Post where visitors can pose with cartoon figures from the Toy Story animated movie series.
