A total of 900 lectures have been held this year around the city to benefit 45,000 local workers in a campaign launched last year by the Shanghai Education Commission and Shanghai Trade Union, Shanghai Open University told Shanghai Daily today.

The campaign is expected to promote academic accomplishments of employees in Shanghai and to increase the portion of people with higher education diplomas in the city.

The two departments plan to help one million employees to go through learning of academic knowledge and training of vocational skills so as to get enough academic credits to acquire diplomas of higher education by 2020.

It also aims at helping all labor models in the city to gain bachelor's degrees.

Organized by the Shanghai Open University, educators, psychologists, writers, volunteers and experts from other areas have visited industrial parks, enterprises, communities and schools to give lectures to workers.

Hundreds of books and videos have also been produced to make the resources accessible to more workers.
