Twenty four students from 16 universities in China and abroad won Chinese literature prizes at Fudan University on Saturday.

Their literature works included free verses, traditional style poems, prose, novelettes, dramatic literature and translated literature.

The Chinese literature award for university students around the world was set up last year by the university with 5 million yuan (US$756,150) of donation from Hu Jiarun, a young entrepreneur in his 20s to promote traditional Chinese culture and Chinese literature. It also aims at encouraging young students to inherit splendid tradition of Chinese culture and learn from excellent foreign literature to explore and innovate in literary creation.

This is the first year for the biennial Jiarun-Fudan Global Chinese Literature Award for University Students to be presented.

It had attracted more than 3,000 literature works and their authors included doctors of literature, science students, freshmen and some students known on campus for writing.
