ParkBox, a 24-hour intelligent fitness capsule, will be installed at 1,000 residential communities around Shanghai, officials announced today.

The fitness capsules are equipped with dumbbells, treadmills and other fitness facilities and will be introduced to residential communities with large numbers of young residents.

People can spend one-hour working out inside the ParkBox for just 10 yuan (US$1.50).

"We hope to promote a new style of fitness that is more flexible, convenient and economical," said Huang Xiaolei, co-founder of ParkBox.

Each ParkBox features a computer system called Smart Coach, which offers data analysis and personalized recommendations for fitness programs.

Since each can hold only 2 to 5 persons at a time, it is expected that ParkBox will also serve as a way to encourage working out socially for families and neighbors.
