Residents take out their quilts to bask in the sunshine outside traditional shikumen lane houses on Huanghe Road in downtown Huangpu District yesterday. Local people believe quilts sterilized under the sunshine are good for health and, therefore, take every chance to air them under bright winter sun after several days of cold and humid weather. Residents use every possible space between the lane houses, sometimes even the street itself, to air their quilts. The alert for cold wave was lifted yesterday morning, but the cold weather will still dominate the rest of the week. It will hit zero degree Celsius today, and will further drop to minus 2 tomorrow and Friday. Good news is it will get a warmer over the weekend, with Sunday promising to be the warmest day this week with maximum 12 degrees Celsius.
