Apple to address slow phone issue in future software update
Apple Inc said it would use a new software update to inform consumers of battery conditions and iPhone properties and let users decide whether to upgrade their iOS in response to the Shanghai Consumer Council's questioning, the council said today.
The council demanded an explanation from Apple on Monday over complaints that it’s deliberately shortening the life of iPhones.
In a written response, Apple said it would check and improve practices of informing users of information, including before product purchase and software updates.
The council's demand is the latest move in a series of global backlash after the US technology giant apologized to customers for software changes it says "unintentionally" reduced the performance of older smartphones.
Apple’s arbitrary upgrade without consumers’ agreement led to poor handset performance, the council said, asking for remedial measures from the company.
