Shanghai Ocean University signs Yangtze River research contract

Shanghai Ocean University signed a contract Friday with the Yangtze River fishery administration of the Ministry of Agriculture to cooperate in research on the ecological protection of the river.

The two parties agreed to set up a strategic research center for ecological protection in the Yangtze River basin to implement the country’s strategy to give priority to ecology in the development of the Yangtze River Economic Zone.

It will integrate high-level talent and resources from home and abroad to carry out interdisciplinary research on the comprehensive protection of the region, including strategies, policies, laws, planning and measures for biological resource conservation, as well as water environment protection and restoration.

It will also focus on commercialization of related research findings.

The university and the administration will also cooperate in enhancing connections between industry, education and research, arranging training for related personnel and internships for students.

Wu Jiamin, Party chief of the university, promised to contribute its strength in areas including fishery supervision, aquatic living resources, the aquatic environment, fishery economy, public management and sociology to provide scientific consultation and technological support for the Ministry of Agriculture.
