A local motorbike rider, caught for a traffic offense, instead ended up with a 10-day detention for vilifying police.

The man surnamed Yin was fined 50 yuan (US$8) for riding an e-bike on a wrong lane at the Shanghai International Tourism and Resorts Zone in the Pudong New Area on February 6, and that evening he posted several posts on tieba.baidu.com disparaging the police officer, who handed him the fine, and demanded that his money be returned.

The e-bike rider was caught riding on the wrong lane at the Shanghai International Tourism and Resorts Zone in Pudong.

Later, Yin even made up a story that the police officer had apologized to him, police said on Wednesday.

Yin was caught on February 9 and has been in detention since.

Pudong police informed that people who have disagreements over traffic tickets can apply for a review of the decision or file a case in court within six months, but those who maliciously vilify the police will be punished.
