Woman blackmailed by man with sex tape

A man in his thirties has been detained for allegedly blackmailing a 66-year-old woman with a sex tape he took of the two, police said on Saturday.

The woman surnamed Zhang, married, reported the case to the police in Baoshan District on January 25.

Zhang alleged she got to know the man on a social networking website earlier that month, and the man expressed admiration to her.

The two met for the first time on January 21 and soon developed an intimate relationship, but Zhang told police that she had no idea that the man shot a sex tape of the two.

The man contacted her on January 25 and asked her to give him 800,000 yuan (US$126,000), and threatened to upload the sex tape to the Internet and send it to her family and friends, police said.

The man didn’t reveal his identity to the woman, according to the police.

The suspect, surnamed Wang, was later caught in neighboring Zhejiang Province and allegedly owned up.

Wang said he had over 100,000 yuan of debt and decided to blackmail the woman when he found out that her family is quite rich, police said.
