Mayor meets guests from USA and UK respectively

Shanghai Mayor Ying Yong met Carlos Gimenez, mayor of Maimi-Dade County, and Charles Bowman, the lord mayor of the City of London, respectively on March 23.

Ying signed a 2019- 2022 memorandum of cooperation between Shanghai and the City of London with Bowman.

While meeting Gimenez, Ying said the bilateral relations between China and the United States is the most important. It will affect the well-being of the people from both countries, and the world’s peace and prosperity as well. Shanghai is working hard to build the international economic, finance, trade, shipping centers, and the technology and innovation center. The city is willing to strengthen its cooperation with US local governments, and have cooperation with Miami-Dade County in technology, education, port, and cruise industry.

Gimenez said Shanghai is an impressive city. Miami-Dade County is willing to strengthen the cooperation with Shanghai in medical treatment, education, technology, and port industry.

While meeting Bowman, Ying said the process of RMB’s internationalization has been accelerating. The city’s financial market keeps advancing. Its financial agencies have created an aggregation effect, and its financial environment keeps improving.

The city will finish building the international financial center in 2020, which is compatible with China’s economic power and RMB’s international status. Also, the city can learn a lot from the City of London in developing green finance and technological finance. The city is willing to deepen the cooperation with the City of London under a new round of memorandum of cooperation.

Bowman said the City of London will fully support the construction of Shanghai’s financial center, and it will work with Shanghai to promote financial innovations, share the two-way investment opportunities with China, and strengthen the belt and road initiative cooperation.

Wu Qing, vice mayor of Shanghai and John Edwards, Britain’s consul general in Shanghai, also attended the meeting.
