Dozens of students and teachers from Wellington College International Shanghai took part in a fire safety education session held by Pudong police on Thursday afternoon.

The participants practiced using fire extinguishers in virtual reality settings, joined fire drills, and were given a lecture on everything they need to know about fire prevention and escape.

The students are asked by their teachers to draw what they see and experience during the session.

A total of 65 students and 12 teachers from the school took part, with another 52 to take the course next week, police said.

The event was held at the site of a fire squad near Shanghai Disney Resort, and is part of the series of “Citizens Police Academy” events targeting foreign students in Pudong.

In December last year, classes on traffic safety and fighting drug abuse were held at the same school.

The Citizens Police Academy wants to enable residents to better support police and their work, as well as helping to build safer communities.
