From a skilled carpenter to a financial analyst to a caregiver of the elderly, 15 people were awarded as standouts on Friday for their expertise and professionalism by the Jing’an Temple community.

Organizers of the awards say they aim to break the stereotyped thinking that only front-line workers are qualified as standouts. "Anyone who plunges into work with immense zeal and shows really good performance is a standout," the community officials said.

Aged from 27 to 61, those awarded include financial analyst Qiao Bilin, caregiver of the elderly Zhang Bian, elegant lifestyle advocate Shao Qin, chef Tony Jiang, and skilled carpenter Xue Mingfu who has taken part in several projects of restoration in historical buildings.

Jiang, who has been working as a chef for more than 25 years, said people should never forget why and where they started.
