Pengpu Town offers cultural performances on residents' doorsteps
More than 150,000 residents in Pengpu Town will be able to enjoy a variety of activities right on their doorsteps this year thanks to a new initiative of the local government.
Local officials announced on Friday that shows ranging from folk dance to Huju opera, popular among local residents, will be staged around local neighborhoods.
Residents will also be able to take embroidery, knitting and painting lessons, among others. Instructors will be renowned artists and inheritors of intangible cultural heritage.
“Previously, I needed to take a bus and then walk to the town's cultural activities center to watch a Huju opera show," said an elderly resident surnamed Lu. "Now, I just need to go downstairs!"
